“E-List” means “Euthanasia-List”; Euthanasia is when dogs are put down.
We work with one of the LARGEST county shelters in the USA. The shelter takes in between 30- and 45-thousand dogs every year. Space is a huge problem. Overbreeding and overpopulation can mean more euthanasia. Every year, 1.5 million cats and dogs are euthanized. 6 million enter shelters every year. Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) is one of the top 3 shelters in the country for animal intake per year. MCACC is unfortunately limited on space, and some dogs just don’t make it out alive. We work tirelessly to save dogs’ lives before they are put down.

We both are set to be euthanized August 18th‼ Why? Because we struggling and stressed in our kennels at the shelter. Doesn't seem fair…right? Sadly, the shelter places GOOD adoptable dogs on E-list when they aren't doing well in their kennels. Both dogs are under 50 lbs! And are calm and loveable dogs! See videos in comments. Can we help them live?
Please read about them below, and call (480-331-4188) and fill out form below if you can save 1 of their lives. They have done nothing wrong! They are mentally breaking down from long periods of confinement with limited opportunities for exercise and play. They need to be out of this noisy, chaotic place. Hammy and Berto are located at MCACC East Valley Animal Care Center, 2630 W. Rio Salado Pkwy, Mesa, AZ 85201 (Hours Mon-Friday 12-6pm and Sat-Sunday 12-5pm).

HAMMY (ID #A4742373) is a 3-year-old, neutered, Labrador Retriever/Mix (47 lbs.). Hammy came to the shelter as a stray in May 2022. Sadly, no one has come to find him. Being confined to a kennel for long periods has caused Hammy to be STRESSED!! He is now jumping/pushing on the kennel gate, biting at the door, and stress panting. Volunteers say that Hammy is a friendly boy that gives “kisses” and enjoys being petted. He is very calm and will “sit” for treats and take them gently. Hammy hasn’t had a dog-to-dog assessment. However, his notes say he is interested in other dogs but non-reactive. He may be able to live with another dog but would need a SLOW introduction. It is recommended that Hammy meet the entire family and that children in the home are older.
BERTO (ID #A4738679) is a 2-year-old, neutered, grey and white Weimaraner/American Pit Bull Terrier (56.3 lbs.). Berto was adopted for 2 days and then surrendered because he was not a good fit for a home with another dog. Prior to being adopted, Berto had been at the shelter since May 2022 and has been struggling in his kennel. He is stress panting and pacing back and forth. Berto is a staff favorite! He is described as a “fun, smart boy” that loves to be with people and will lean in to be close and get pets. He knows “sit”, “stay”, “down”, and “up”, and walks well on-leash. He takes treats politely; and reportedly, he can catch a treat from 4 to 6ft. away. He loves running through sprinklers and playing in a kiddie pool. Based on shelter observations and surrender notes, Berto is required to be an only dog. It is recommended that Berto meets his potential adopter’s family before going home.
PLEASE REMEMBER!! All these dogs have been living in a high-stress environment and will need time to de-stress and relax!! They will benefit from a predictable routine as well as ample exercise and time to play.

HELP US LIVE‼️ we will both die on 8/13 ! Set to be euthanized at county shelter! We are both good loveable dogs but sadly shelter places dogs on the E-list that are struggling in their kennel!...not fair...will someone come and meet us and save our life? Please read about them below. Call (480-331-4188) and fill out form below if you can save 1 of their lives. Or you may also go directly to the shelter to meet them (West Valley Animal Care Center), 2500 S 27th Ave, Phoenix. hrs: Mon-Friday 12-6pm and Sat-Sunday 12-5pm). They are very sweet dogs and do NOT deserve to die because they were dumped in a shelter. www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/SDN/Dog AXEL (ID #A4751477) is a 4-year-old, neutered, gray and white American Pit Bull Terrier (68 lbs.). Axel’s previous owner had good things to say about him and only surrendered him because he wasn’t a good fit for a family with small children. His owner’s said that he loved cuddles and belly rubs, was housebroken, would go into his crate when asked, and sat patiently to be harnessed for walks. Axel was working on basic commands and was reportedly “really smart” and “eager to please”. He would entertain himself with a rope toy or tough Kong. He had exposure to cats and was curious about them but separation with very slow introductions were advised. The owner said that if someone came to meet Axel, he would steal their heart! Volunteers describe Axel as a “very kind dog” that may be a little timid but friendly. He leans in to get pets all over and to get belly rubs. He “sits” for treats and takes them gently and has been easy to leash and return to his kennel. If children are in the home, they must be 5 or older. It is recommended that he meets the entire family and that he is given time to know everyone because he may be a little timid. Axel has not been assessed with other dogs, so he would need SLOW introductions if there are dogs in the home. CECE (ID #A4748820) is a 2-year-old, spayed white and gray American Pit Bull Terrier (65 lbs.). CeCe came into the shelter as a homeless stray and was cooperative during intake. Sadly, no one came to look for her! At first, CeCe was uncomfortable with staff or volunteers she didn’t know. However, her recent notes say she has been affectionate and very friendly with both male and female volunteers. She comes up to be leashed when called and wags her tail. She is easy to leash and return to her kennel and walks moderately well on-leash. She “sits” on cue for treats and takes them gently and is playful when out in the yard. Volunteers think CeCe may be potty trained. CeCe’s sociability with dogs is unknown, so she would need to be kept separate initially, with a SLOW introduction to the resident dog(s). It is recommended that she meets the entire family, and she might benefit from in-home training to learn new skills. PLEASE REMEMBER!! All these dogs have been living in a high-stress environment and will need time to de-stress and relax!! Both will benefit from a predictable routine as well as ample exercise and play time. BOTH OF US ARE GOING TO BE EUTHANIZED SOON at Shelter‼️ We have NOT done anything wrong, we are both good adoptable dogs but the shelter places dogs struggling in their kennel on the E-list!....we need out now! I am an adorable, petite, blue and white American Pit Bull Terrier puppy (only 38 lbs.)! I’m neutered and vaccinated and ready to go home! I was wandering homeless when someone found me and called the shelter to pick me up. I didn’t know what was happening to me, and I was scared! It took me no time at all to show what a great dog I am. Volunteers say I am a happy boy that is always wagging my tail. They describe me as “super friendly”, “super-sweet”, and “lots of fun”. I love playing fetch and will return the ball, but I can be a little mouthy when giving it up. I am easy to take from and return to my kennel, and l walk “great” on-leash. I have been non-reactive to the barking dogs in my kennel area. I know “sit” and take treats gently. When a volunteer took me on a car ride, I was well-behaved. The shelter recommends that I meet the entire family and that children be a little older. Love, Amarillo ❤ RIPLEY (#A4681188) Hi, I'm Ripley🐾 (my behavior suggests I might be OK with other dogs-SLOW intro required). I am a unique, 2-1/2-yr-old, black and white, smooth-coated Collie/Greyhound mix (54 lbs.)! I’m spayed and vaccinated and ready to go home! My previous owners said I love adults and kids but got overly excited when around other dogs and didn’t like having my ears cleaned at the vet. I am calm too. I have been learning “sit”, “stay”, “shake”, go “down”, and “up”. I am making good progress with these and learning to take treats gently. Volunteers say I love affection but can be a little jumpy to get it. I love full body petting and scratching. I am easy to leash and walk but may pull slightly at times. I like the kiddie pool and playing fetch with a stuffed toy which I’ll bring back and drop close by. When in proximity to other dogs, I get overly excited, but I’m learning to redirect my attention. The shelter recommends that I meet the entire family and that I have in-home training to continue to work on skills I have been learning at the shelter. I am scratching my ears and being treated with oral medication since I don’t like having my ears examined. A lot of dogs don’t like that. I will be finished with meds soon. Love, Ripley ❤ PLEASE REMEMBER!! All these dogs have been living in a high-stress environment and will need time to de-stress and relax!!
